Setting Up a New Space

Setting up a new Space is a two-step process: the Application Owner creates the Space and hands it over to a Space Owner, who then configures it in Smartchat.

Step 1 — Create the Space (Application Owner)

Section titled “Step 1 — Create the Space (Application Owner)”

This step still happens in the separate legacy admin panel:

  1. Click New Space and provide a name.
  2. Open the Space Owners tab and assign one or more Space Owners.

The new owners see the Space in their Space selector after their next login.

Step 2 — Configure the Space (Space Owner)

Section titled “Step 2 — Configure the Space (Space Owner)”

Switch to the new Space in the Space selector, click your profile image, open the Admin Panel and go to Settings. Work through the tabs in this order:

  1. Space: paste the Space API Key obtained from the API Key Portal and decide whether the Space holds Confidential Data.
  2. Models: enable the models your members may use and pick the default model for new chats. The Embedding Model shown on this tab was fixed when the Space was created.
  3. Space Members (under Users): add the first members and promote further owners.
  4. Optionally connect content sources: Confluence or an S3 bucket.

Every setting is described in detail in Space Settings and Managing Space Members.
